Southern Regional Education Board

Purpose

The Southern Regional Education Board is a mutual agreement among fourteen states constituting an area for regional education supported by public funds derived from taxation by constituent states and derived from other sources for establishment, acquisition, operation, and maintenance of regional educational schools and institutions within the region as determined by this compact.

Four year terms

Composition

The Commonwealth's representatives to the Southern Regional Education Board in compliance with the Southern Regional Education Compact shall consist of: the Governor, who shall serve ex officio, and four citizens to be appointed by the Governor of whom one shall be selected from the field of education and one shall be a member of the legislature. The legislative member shall serve a term coincident with his term of office. The gubernatorial appointees shall serve four-year terms. All appointees may be reappointed for successive terms.

Vacant Seats

The seat descriptions indicate if there is a specific requirement for that seat (a profession, consumer, someone who lives in a certain congressional district, etc.). If there is only a number listed (Seat 7), there is no specific criteria for that seat. A “citizen” seat requires someone who is not affiliated with that profession.
