Purpose

The purpose of the Virginia Commission for the Arts is to support and stimulate excellence in the arts through public awareness, interest and participation in all parts of the State.

Term

Five year terms

Composition

The Commission shall consist of thirteen members appointed by the Governor subject to confirmation by the General Assembly. No employee of the Commonwealth or member of the General Assembly is eligible for appointment as a member of the Commission. At least one but no more than two members shall be appointed from each congressional district in the Commonwealth Date of terms has been changed to July1--June 30 of years serving. Chapter 577 S308 April 11, 2022 3.2-1701 with three members serving an additional year to achieve staggering.
